Flashing In Broad Daylight
Description
There’s no need to put your camera away when the sun blazes high overhead. If you start with an understanding of how your camera records light, then you’ll see the many options to create dramatic light outdoors during the day. We’ll start with a discussion of the boundaries created when shooting available light. Then we’ll move outdoors to shoot high-speed/Auto FP sync and how to create synergy with many small flashes. Along the way, we’ll take a look at other options—like neutral density filters and hyper-sync.
Topics covered:
- Why your camera can’t record all that you can see
- How your camera syncs the shutter with flash
- Why shooting in the shade creates flat images
- How to tame ambient light with your shutter
- Changing the sun: How to use large diffusers and reflectors
- Small Flash (Speedlite) Techniques:
- High-Speed Sync/Auto FP Sync
- Gang Light—How to Turn Noon To Night
- Neutral Density, Hyper-Sync, etc.
