This session explores a variety of tools and techniques that can be used to enhance your portraits.

The session begins with a discussion as to what makes a good portrait – this will include discussion of such factors as lighting, composition, perspective, context and so on. This will be followed by a related discussion centered on the message that you intend your portrait to convey: specifically, what is it about the person you’re photographing that you want your photograph to get across?

This leads on to a detailed discussion of a variety of post-production techniques that may be employed to enhance your portraits: including general techniques such as black and white conversions, toning black and white and colour photographs, and soft-focus/blur techniques; and more specific techniques such as removing blemishes and distractions and highlighting a subject’s eyes.
